The Samsung Night Run comes to Cork
Sprint hurdler Derval O'Rourke and Cork footballer Eoin Cadogan were at the launch of the inaugural Samsung Night Run Cork in December 2013. Also present was the Lord Mayor of Cork, Catherine Clancy who said, “Cork City Council is delighted to be associated with the staging of a Samsung Night Run in the City next April, adding further to sporting events already being held such as the Cork City Marathon, Cork City Sports etc. The event will provide a new and different experience for many athletes, and at night an opportunity to see the city in a different ‘light’.
Gary Twohig, General Manager of Samsung IT & Mobile Ireland, said “We’re thrilled to bring the Night Run event to Cork for 2014. In the last two years, Samsung Night Run has given us the chance to make an indelible mark in the running calendar. In bringing this signature event to Cork it gives us both a new group of runners and a new City to experience. Cork has a fine tradition in Irish sport and we are confident that the people of Cork will get involved in an event like this. We would encourage athletes to sign up early to experience Cork in a very distinctive way.”
Support Schools in Cork and DublinStudents from Central Model School with Minister for Education, Ruairi Quinn, T.D.
Support local schools while you race. The run isn’t just about taking on your rivals in Cork or Dublin. Just by lacing up, you’re helping out your community. Proceeds will go to benefit schools in Cork and Dublin with our Digital School Solution. It’s an initiative that provides Samsung technology to help young people hone their skills through digital learning. So all the while you'll be helping them race ahead in the future. Last year’s event helped to provide a complete digital classroom in three Dublin city centre schools which were nominated by Dublin City Council, one of our Night Run partners. The schools include Central Model School, Marlborough Street; St. Vincent’s Girls National School, North William Street; and CBS Secondary School, Westland Row.
